Field Monitoring in Banteay Meanchey

On July 25-26, 2024, the PCRL project team, in collaboration with the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Department of Environment, conducted a field visit to monitor rice seed production activities of the Rice Seed Producer Groups (RSPGs) in Banteay Meanchey province.

The visit was in the Agricultural Cooperatives (AC) Rumduol Tean Kam located in Tean Kam Tbong village, Tean Kam commune, Preah Net Preah district, Banteay Meanchey province and Ang Trapeang Thmor Community Protected Area (CPA) in Sambour village, Poi Char commune, Phnom Srok district, Banteay Meanchey province.During the field visit, there were 32 participants, including 22 females. The objectives of the visit were: 1. To support rice seed production activities of the Rice Seed Production Group (RSPG) in target communes. 2. To encourage the RSPG to implement rice seed production based on the Quality Declared Seed (QDS) system in accordance with the PCRL project plan. 3. To promote the implementation of rice cultivation in time for the 2024 season.

After participating, members of the RSPG gained a better understanding of rice seed production using the QDS system, which includes sustainable rice production, maintenance measures, monitoring rice crop growth, and receiving technical assistance from the target Commune Agriculture Officers (CAO).

In Banteay Meanchey province, the project distributed 4,500 kg of rice seeds (Phka Romduol and Sen Kro-Ob 01) to 58 households for cultivation on a total area of 45 hectares. According to the plan, RSPG members are required to complete their rice cultivation by early August 2024.

It should be reminded that in April 2024, the PCRL project, in collaboration with its implementation partners, conducted trainings for a total of 132 trainees (35 females) including Commune Agriculture Officers, Agriculture Officers and the PCRL focal points of PDAFF from the five target provinces.
